About Me

Kerry HammilI’m Kerry Hammil.  I’ve been fascinated with beads since I was young and have been making jewelry most of my life.  In 2002 I took my first lampworking class which turned out to be a complete disaster – it’s a lot harder than it looks to balance molten glass.  A few years later I found the courage to try again with an intensive study course at Pratt in Seattle.  That class got me hooked.

In 2008 I built a lampworking studio in my basement with the help of my wonderful fiance and I’ve been making beads and glass sculpture regularly  since then.  Sakura Glasswork came to be in early 2010.  After much contemplation and searching, the name sakura, which is Japanese for “cherry blossom”, popped up one afternoon while the cherry trees in front of my house were in full bloom.  Sakura is also my favorite of the traditional Sumi-e subjects.

I hope that this site will provide creative inspiration to others as well as focusing my own creativity.
